Or, simply double the lifetime value of your current donors? Sounds appealing, right? Join John Clese and Jay Love of Avectra and learn how fundraising organizations are developing their own engagement scoring programs, and how your organization can begin objectively measuring engagement, too! FY 2014 Budget Proposal to Limit Itemized Deductions, Including Charitable Deductions – Be Prepared to Take Action
President Obama’s FY Budget was released on Apr. 10. His proposal included the 28 percent cap on itemized deductions, including the charitable deduction, for certain taxpayers, as well as the proposal “Buffett Rule” that exempts the charitable deduction from the limitations placed on other itemized deductions by that rule. AFP released this statement in response to the budget. As more information is released, AFP will activate the Engaging Networks e-letter campaign, which will help you send an urgent letter to your members of Congress. Stay tuned!
Obama Budget Shows Promise for Nonprofits
Though some nonprofit advocates were already gearing up to oppose the President’s budget plan released on Apr. 10, some nonprofits are hopeful that the $3.78-trillion 2014 budget will add money to nonprofits that work in education and healthcare. All the while stepping up efforts to reward groups that can provide they are getting strong results in solving social problems. (The Chronicle of Philanthropy) Read

AFP Action University Book Review (Video): The Motivation Myth: The Simple Yet Powerful Key to Unlock Human Potential and Create Inspired Performance and Achievement, by Mattison Grey & Jonathan Manske
Most people believe praise, appreciation, and compliments are great ways to motivate and inspire people. That is a myth, says Mattison Grey and Jonathan Manske. Fortunately, there is an alternative: acknowledgement. This communication tool is the cure for underperformance, lack of self-confidence, and ineffective motivation techniques. Acknowledgement effectively produces the results—increased performance, motivation and inspiration, and improved self-confidence—these other communication tools try to accomplish but do not.

The Power of Planning: Building a Strategic and Long Term Development Plan
(April 23, 1-2:30 p.m. ET)
Fund Development should be a core function of your organization and of your organization’s long term strategic goals. Yet, we often focus our development planning on the short term, e.g. the Annual Development Plan. And while we typically begin to plan for the next year based on the previous year’s projected results, we don’t often look at development planning through a strategic and long-term focus. Where do we want to be in 3-5 years with our fund development program? How does this dove-tail with where our organization is going? This session will cover how to make that mental and planning shift in our thinking from year-to-year to longer term outcomes and grow philanthropic revenue.
