Get Started Quick Tips
Are you inspired by the work of young people in your community? You can help advance your AFP chapter’s Youth in Philanthropy program today. Here are a few tips to help you get started.

  • Host a "Bring a/your child to an AFP luncheon" event. This is a great way to introduce philanthropy to a child in a "grown up" setting.
  • Ask a local school partner to host a YIP committee/board meeting. Your chapter benefits by staying connected with local youth leadership and vice versa.
  • Consider reaching out to your chapter membership to support your chapter’s work in youth in philanthropy. An easy first step is to email your membership list.

Click here to see a sample YIP outreach communication from the AFP New Jersey Chapter. Feel free to copy and edit it for your chapter’s use in reaching out to your membership.

YIP Featured Resource: Young Careers Kit
Yes, we’re making YIP easy! AFP chapters everywhere celebrate youth in philanthropy programs. If you want to have a chapter YIP program as well, where do you start? AFP has developed a Careers in Fundraising Toolkit to help. All you need to do is open it! The toolkit can help your chapter begin or grow a YIP program. Engage high school students in your area by utilizing this toolkit. To get the ball rolling, chapters can order Ten Reasons to Consider a Career in Fundraising at no charge from www.AFPprintq.com. Help develop the next generation of fundraisers. For more information on the contents of the toolkit, go to www.afpnet.org, click on “About AFP” and then select “Engaging the Next Generation.”
