From the Executive Office—Martha Kirkland
Thank you for your leadership and personal commitment to support and promote the AFP foundation’s 2012 Every Member Campaign as your chapter’s foundation development chair. Your hard work is greatly appreciated and is really paying off. As you know, our goal for the year is $480,000. I am delighted to share with you that with 25 percent of the campaign completed as of Aug. 1, we are pacing well ahead of last year.
Early in June, I had the privilege of visiting the headquarters of RuffaloCODY in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. For the fourth year in a row, RuffaloCODY is most generously providing its services to the foundation on a pro bono basis. While I was in Cedar Rapids I met all of the senior management team and all members of the calling team. They are working very closely with the foundation to continually refine its approaches that will enhance the success of the calling program for the fundraising profession.
You may be interested to learn that all the callers for this year’s campaign have been on the AFP foundation’s team before. They asked wonderful questions about AFP, and all members of the team volunteered that they really enjoyed their calling experiences. The high point of my visit at RuffaloCODY was the opportunity to listen in on several calls and to hear the voices and responses of both the callers and our members. My favorite was, “I wish I could give more.”
We are always eager to hear from our FDCs and to provide whatever help and resources to support you in your efforts. Several of you have asked us recently for more information to promote the 2012 Every Member Campaign. We are including a short PowerPoint presentation and Talking Points describing the EMC. This PowerPoint also includes a short segment about the Chapter Treasury Campaign, a related annual campaign of the AFP foundation. Chapter Treasury gifts are one of the benchmarks that designate AFP 10 Star Chapters.

Development Update—Lisa Baranello
The first and second quarters of 2012 have been incredibly busy here at the foundation. In addition to the usual spring activities—the international conference, the yearly financial audit, kicking off the EMC and Chapter Treasury campaigns and preparing the annual report, newsletters and materials for numerous committee meetings—Martha and I are continuing to assess and streamline internal processes and align them with the capabilities of the new Personify database. Personify software combines fundraising functionality with an advanced technology platform and is highly customizable based on our present gift-processing and reporting needs. The assessment, planning and integrating processes are ongoing and will ultimately provide the highest level of efficiency for foundation staff and members alike.
2012 EMC Calling Program
- As Martha mentioned the 2012 EMC calling program is off and running! As of Aug. 1, we have tracked at roughly 20 percent higher than last year at this time thanks to the enthusiastic support of all the chapter leaders. The calling program will continue through the summer and into early fall. You will receive two email notifications prior to calls commencing in your chapters. Calling is done in alphabetical order by state, and I will notify chapter FDCs at the end of the month if their chapter is scheduled to be called in the upcoming month. RuffaloCODY also will notify individual members by email to let them know to expect a call on behalf of the EMC.
We are so appreciative of the tremendous support RuffaloCODY is providing for our 2012 EMC calling program. The professional and personalized conversations with our donors that the calling program provides will enhance our donor relations efforts and will certainly make a big difference in the success of the 2012 campaign.
Thanks to all of you, too, for participating in the calling program and encouraging your members to give to the 2012 EMC. If your chapter reaches or exceeds its EMC goal by Dec. 31, your chapter will qualify for an EMC Chapter Partnership Grant, which will give your chapter 25 percent of the monies raised to use in 2013.
100 Percent Chapter Board Participation
Board members who give to the Every Member Campaign lead by example. It is difficult to ask the AFP members in your chapter to give if you have not yet made a gift yourself. Charity begins at home, and we truly appreciate the tremendous effort put forth by all of our chapters. As of Aug. 9, 2012, 46 chapters have let us know that they have achieved 100 percent board participation in the 2012 Every Member Campaign:

Chapter News—Brent Cantley
After a rollout of the new database earlier this year, the method for accessing the Chapter Tally Report changed. Although most chapter administrators have been easily accessing the reports, some of them have reported some difficulty doing so.
To begin, please open the AFP website, www.afpnet.org. Once on the site, please follow these steps:
- Click on Login
- Enter username and password (these are the chapter login information and are case sensitive)
- At the top of the screen, click on “My AFP Profile”
- Scroll down to Foundation Development Chair Reports; click on the link
- Click on Chapter Tally Report
- “2012” will appear in the box; click on Continue
- The Chapter Tally Report will load at this point
If the report does not appear, please look at the top of the screen to see whether or not there is a banner asking whether to allow pop-ups from our website. Please allow the pop-ups. If you still have trouble accessing the Chapter Tally Reports, please let me know and I will be happy to assist you.

Quick Response Q & A—Suzan Weihofen
Q. When should members expect a letter acknowledging their gift or pledge?
A. Acknowledgement letters are now being sent every week for new gifts, pledges and pledge payments. Many thanks for your patience as we developed a process (working with our new database) for acknowledgement letters. The system is still being fine-tuned, but letters were initially sent to members in May and early June for all gifts and pledges that had been received
Q. Whom should members contact at the foundation with new or updated credit card information?
A. Please contact Suzan Weihofen at 703/519-8448 or 800/666-3863, ext. 448, with credit card information that has been updated since your initial pledge form to avoid a disruption in your payment schedule.
Q. I inadvertently made an online gift using my foundation development chair logon ID rather than my personal logon ID. The gift is now incorrectly reflected on the Chapter Tally Report as being from my chapter’s “portal.” What should I do?
A. Please contact Suzan Weihofen at 703/519-8448 or email@example.com and provide her with your AFP ID number. She will transfer the gift to your correct record.
Alpha Society Members—Please contact the AFP foundation whenever you receive new or updated credit card information to avoid a disruption in your payment schedule.
Pledges—When filling out a pledge form, please remember to include your chapter designation and circle the months when you wish to receive pledge reminders.
