December 22, 2009: The AFP 50th Anniversary Website

Most of us are not thrilled when we hit the Big 5-0, but when you an association, making it to the golden anniversary is cause for celebration! The upcoming year marks AFP’s 50th anniversary, and as part of the activities planned, we have launched a new, dedicated website – – to mark and highlight the occasion. Here, you can find features on the history of AFP and its chapters, the AFP 50th Anniversary Chapter Toolkit and a listing of related chapter events, the Anniversary Task Force Roster, and a page where we will feature your personal recollections and stories from over the years (and don’t forget you can share your experiences on the AFP 50th Anniversary Facebook site). December 15, 2009: Make a Gift

Did you know that you can make a secure gift to the AFP Foundation for Philanthropy and the AFP Foundation for Philanthropy – Canada simply by logging on to the new AFP website? The Foundations’ Every Member Campaign helps to generate the resources needed to fund strategic initiatives that advance ethical and effective fundraising. To make a gift, simply click the “Make a Gift” link that appears at the top of every page, or visit the AFP Foundations for Philanthropy homepage to also access the Canadian form. December 8, 2009: The AFP Professional Development Plan for Fundraisers

AFP's professional advancement programs and courses give every professional, no matter the level of experience, the opportunity to enrich their skills and add to their knowledge base. To help guide your fundraising career, AFP has created and hosted on its website the AFP Professional Development Plan for Fundraisers (available as printable PDF or interactive Word doc). This is a comprehensive map that details your career needs based on years of experience. The plan is interactive—simply click on a product or course in the guide to learn more. November 24, 2009: Discussion Groups 

When asked, AFP members often cite the ability to network and interact with colleagues as a key benefit of membership. In response, AFP has established a number of discussion forums and groups based on topics and chapters, where you can pose questions and ask advice of your fellow AFPers! Simply go to the Discussion Groups page and check off the forums that interest you. You can also indicate how you want to receive communications, whether instant or once-a-day e-mail digests. November 17, 2009: Social Media and Blogs 

AFP's new website is not merely an online presence, but strives to be an interactive online community, where members and others can meet, interact, network and share information and experiences with colleagues. The AFP Online Communities page presents all available social media options. You can sign up for our official Linkedin Discussions and the only nonprofit sector-specific networking community, ammado. And you can find us on Facebook and Twitter! In addition, the AFP Resource Center maintains a number of topical research and knowledge blogs to assist, guide and inform both members and non-members interested in the world of fundraising. November 3, 2009: The Related AFP Resources Feature

On each content page, you will find a dedicated area called "Related AFP Resources" in the left-side column under the navigation for that section of the website. This box features additional, relevant content and articles on the website that we believe, based on similar key words and topics in the content, you also might be interested in reading. This "smart" function is one way we hope to upgrade your user experience, and to quickly present other interconnected items that can help you in your practice. We are continuously tweaking this feature to better fine-tine the results, so please let us know your thoughts.

October 27, 2009: The Quick Poll

AFP is comprised of experienced, wise members who have their pulse on the world of fundraising and philanthropy, so who better to help inform and educate us on the latest mood, developments, and directions in the field? To better capture your thoughts and impressions, we have developed a new Quick Poll area on the homepage of, where—once a month—we will post a new relevant and timely poll question for you to answer. After a month, we tabulate the results, develop an article based on them, and when appropriate use these findings to help shape the way AFP approaches an issue. Please make sure to complete the Quick Poll question during your next visit to! And visit the updated Quick Poll page for the latest results.

October 20, 2009: The Meetings and Events Calendars

The new website has a new, dynamic calendar feature that allows a user to filter events by date, location and type of event. The main calendar page defaults to a comprehensive All Events calendar, but from here you can narrow your returns by selecting one of the following sub-calendars: AFP Events, Education Events, Chapter Events, or Geographical Region. No matter which calendar you visit, you can click the event title to find out more information, or jump to the relevant event page or registration. You can also choose to view a calendar in either a standard grid format or as a simple list. Check out the AFP calendar today

October 13, 2009: Browse by Topic and Most Popular Resources

In addition to the upgraded advanced search capability of the new website, we also offer alternate ways to quickly locate the most popular and useful resources available to members. The first is the Browse by Topic pulldown menu featured in the top-right corner of every page. Here, you will find quick links to specialized, comprehensive pages on identified “Hot Topics” such as Capital Campaigns and Special Events, with new ones added as fast as they are developed! Another way AFP spotlights key resources now available to members is via the Popular Resources box on the homepage. This section provides instant access to our new AFP Information Exchange papers, valuable toolkits, discounts and more! 

October 6, 2009: The New Advanced Site Search Feature

The website now features a new, robust search capability that allows you to narrow your search by specific topic, event or product! Visit the Advanced Search page and you can search the entire site by keyword, selected categories and/or subcategories, or a combination of both, returning focused search results without unnecessary scrolling and hunting.
