Proposed Deficit Reduction Measures Could Curb Charitable Giving
Two organizations tasked with confronting the U.S. federal deficit have issued draft proposals to reduce the deficit. Although AFP supports the concept of deficit reduction, we are concerned about proposed changes to the charitable deduction in both proposals, and we encourage members to contact Congress explaining the potential harm to charities. High Hopes for Holiday Giving
Seventy-four percent (74 percent) of adults plan to give this holiday season. With average total gifts of $281, the anticipated amount raised by nonprofit organizations will be more than $48 billion. Read more.
Fast Facts: AFP Poll Shows Fundraising News Brighter Than ‘09
According to an informal website poll, nearly half of fundraisers report raising more or significantly more money from January to September 2010 compared to the same period in 2009 (47 percent). Twenty-one percent reported raising the same amount and 32 percent said they raised less. The results are from AFP’s homepage Quick Poll and are based on 361 responses.

AFP Think Tank Webinar Dec. 9: Law and Nonprofits
