Tax Extenders Bill Would Make IRA Rollover Permanent
Congress has reached agreement on a package of tax bills that would make several charitable giving incentives permanent, including the Charitable IRA Rollover.
Canada: Canadian Government Proposes Larger Tax Incentive for Donations Against Donors Income Over $200,000
Mark Blumberg reports that in addition to creating a new higher top marginal tax rate for those earning income over $200,000 (from 29% to 33%), the federal government in Canada is also increasing the tax credit for donors that are in the new 33% marginal tax bracket, meaning greater tax incentives to give. Meanwhile, Don Johnson calls on the government to protect giving and oppose a provision that would tax stock-option benefits like ordinary income, a proposal that could have significant ramifications for donors and charities.
Nonprofit Leaders Say Increased Donor Demand for Evidence of Impact Makes It Hard to Raise Money
A new report shows that nearly half of nonprofit leaders and executives (47%) say it's challenging or extremely challenging to raise funds in an environment where donors have stepped-up expectations for measurements of the social return on their investments (SROI). And a sizable majority (68%) says their organizations will change their SROI measurement approaches over the next three years in order to meet donors' expectations. Read more.
New Report Shows Volunteerism Down Slightly
The Corporation for National and Community Service reports that just over a quarter of adults in the U.S. (25.3 percent) volunteered with a charity in 2014, down a tenth of a percentage point from 2013. Data from "Volunteering and Civic Life in America" includes volunteer rates and rankings, civic engagement trends, and analysis for 50 states and 51 cities across the country.
