Nomination Period for Chapter Diversity, AFP Leadership Awards Starting Soon
The Charles R. Stephens Award recognizes chapters for their outstanding work in encouraging diversity and inclusion, while the Barbara Marion Award honors an AFP member for his or her volunteer work for AFP and the profession at the local, national and international levels. Nomination forms will be out soon (look for the announcement in eWire), and the deadline will be Aug. 15.

Statement by Commissioner Putnam on Gov. Scott Signing Bill to Protect Consumers from Deceptive and Misleading Charities
On June 13, 2014, Florida's Governor Rick Scott signed HB 629 into law, creating stricter regulations around the state's nonprofits. Upon engaging the Florida legislature and the Governor's office on this issue AFP was pleased to see significant changes made to the bill prior to enactment. While AFP still has concerns, we look forward to continuing a collaborative effort with Florida's government as they proceed with the implementation phase of the legislation. Read more.

Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL)
On July 1, 2014, Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL) will take effect, applying to commercial electronic messages ("CEM") that are either sent from, or accessed on, a computer system in Canada, unless an exemption applies. Mark Blumberg, a partner at Blumberg Segal LLP and Non-Profit, drafted a document to help explain what the CASL will mean for Canada charities.
