The Professional Development in Fundraising Diploma - Spanish Language
With The Professional Development in Fundraising Diploma, AFP's partnership with Tecnologico de Monterrey reaches thousands of fundraisers throughout Latin America.
AFP, in partnership Tecnologico de Monterrey, has developed an online diploma program to help build the fundraising capacity of civil society organizations in Latin America. The Spanish-language Professional Development in Fundraising Diploma is part of Tecnologico de Monterrey's Social Leaders program, a flagship online program targeted to leaders of non-governmental organizations in 22 countries in Latin America. Tecnologico de Monterrey (Tec de Monterrey), based in Monterrey, Mexico, is a multi-campus university system with academic centers in different regions of the country and an extensive online virtual university. Its Social Leaders program has reached 66,000 students in its 10-year history.
"Fundraising and capacity building are growing very quickly in Mexico and throughout Latin America," said Paulette V. Maehara, CFRE, CAE, president and CEO of AFP. "It is critical that fundraisers here have access to the best possible training and education - that they are connected to the same kinds of principles, techniques and methods that their colleague around the world use. The Social Leaders program provides that opportunity, and Tec de Monterrey has an outstanding record of experience with their online programs."
Tec has developed a sophisticated educational platform that allows all online activities to be tracked throughout the progress of a course. A team of tutors and an academic coordinator work with learners throughout the progress of each course.
An important component of the training is the capability to create learning communities that enhance a long-term relationship with the university. That learning community is facilitated by Massociedad, a group of civil society organizations that serve as a learning and knowledge exchange platform across Latin America. Massociedad's focus is on helping regional and national organizations become centers of excellence, and providing online learning opportunities.
The fundraising diploma program was offered for the first time in August, 2009, enrolling 51 students. The program consists of 96 hours of online instruction, delivered 24/7. Included in the curriculum are five modules:
- Civil Society and Its Development
- Obtaining Resources from Individuals
- Obtaining Resources from Organizations
- Communication and Marketing
- Leadership and Administration
The target audience for the diploma program is individuals with a minimum of two years of experience working in development, marketing or public relations for civil society organizations, including directors, board members and volunteers.
