Changes to CFRE Certification Process
(Apr. 23, 2007) CFRE International, the organization that oversees the Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) credential, has announced new changes to the certification process.
Most importantly, candidates for both initial certification and recertification should be aware that, beginning in 2010, 50 percent of all reported continuing education activities must come from CFRE-approved providers. Although the changes will not go into effect until 2010, candidates who were planning to apply in 2010 and beyond should ensure that their continuing education activities over the next couple of years will meet this new standard.
CFRE International reports that the vast majority of candidates already meet this requirement and emphasizes that courses not approved will still count toward the education needed, but not the 50 percent requirement from approved providers.
A list of continuing education providers that offer approved courses toward the 50 percent requirement can be found here.
Online Application and Status
CFRE International now offers an online application form that allows candidates to track their progress toward certification or certification over time. Potential new candidates can create an online account, with no obligation. The form calculates points for candidates and indicates when they have met the requirements. Fundraisers who are already certified now have online accounts established for them that they can use to track their activities and address updates over the recertification period.
In addition, CFRE certification status can now be verified online by clicking on “Search for CFREs.” Employers and others can use this function to check certification status.
