AFP Business Membership
(February 10, 2014) AFP's Code of Ethical Principles and Standards had been amended and expanded to apply to for-profit businesses involved with or supporting Fundraising. WEBINAR (Oct. 28, 2013) – Spam Law - Recent Legislation and its Impact on Canadian Fundraisers and Charities
(September 21, 2013) Although not yet proclaimed, Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation ("CASL") is expected to come into force sometime in 2014. The Act will apply to both for-profit and not-for-profit organizations. CASL will regulate commercial activities conducted through electronic means and will prohibit spam, hacking, malware, fraud, invasion of privacy and address harvesting. Of particular relevance to Canadian fundraisers and charities are CASL's provisions governing spam. They will impose certain requirements on all fundraisers and charities that send commercial electronic messages ("CEMs"). Specifically, consent from the recipients will be required and the CEM's must meet the prescribed information and form requirements and provide an unsubscribe mechanism.

Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation Awarded the 2012 Award for Outstanding Foundation
(November 15, 2011) The Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation (GCRCF) began its philanthropic legacy when it was created as a community welfare trust in the 1940s. It has distributed more than $60 million in grants since becoming a public foundation in 1992, including over $6 million in grants in 2010 alone. With current assets now totaling more than $105 million, the foundation holds more than 500 charitable funds that benefit Cedar Rapids and Linn County, as well as affiliates in Keokuk and Jones and Wapello counties.

In her case, tumors grow from the nerve tissues in her spine, causing her vertebrae to become thin and unsupported. After several surgeries, doctors believed she would never walk again and told her parents it was unlikely she would live to be a teenager. True to her nature, she would later run into the surgeon’s office to thank him for “helping me walk again.”

Foundation Giving Held Steady in 2010, Expected to Grow in 2011
(April 12, 2011) Grantmaking foundations in the United States gave an estimated $45.7 billion in 2010, virtually unchanged from 2009, according to a report from the Foundation Center. In 2011 foundation giving is expected to grow between 2 and 4 percent.
