Successful AFP/Advantage partnership benefits foundations

2002 EMC Pledge Payment Deadline is Feb. 15

In 2002, the AFP Foundation for Philanthropy partnered with Advantage Consulting, Fairfield, N.J., (learn more about Advantage by visiting www.advantageconsulting.com) to assist in the administration, education and cultivation of the largest component of the Annual Fund, the Every Member Campaign (EMC). Through the Advantage program alone, $287,851 in pledges was raised from 4,159 donors. The total amount pledged to the 2002 Every Member Campaign for both the AFP Foundation for Philanthropy and the AFP Foundation for Philanthropy, Canada, was a record-breaking $560,600. The deadline to receive payments towards the 2002 EMC was extended to Feb. 15, 2003.

'We're very pleased with the results of the AFP/Advantage partnership,' says Paulette Maehara, CFRE, CAE. 'The hard work of the Advantage team not only increased the support for the Every Member Campaign, but also helped the foundation build closer relationships with donors by improving our systems and capabilities.'

The most evident success came from the program's enhanced capability to reach members. The Advantage calling program acquired 2,539 new donors, recaptured and upgraded 778 lapsed donors, and renewed and/or upgraded 842 donors for a total of $231,143 in new and increased dollars.

Advantage provided, on a pro bono basis, an annual fund strategy and action plan for the design, production, implementation and analysis of the foundation's Every Member Campaign. Working with chapter leaders, Advantage was able to extend the local relationships donors have with their chapters to the international campaign through personalized mailings, telephone solicitation and cultivation. Advantage also provided fulfillment, database management and reporting services. The partnership with Advantage is valued as a $500,000 gift in-kind over two years.

AFP Foundation for Philanthropy, Canada

The AFP Foundation for Philanthropy, Canada's partnership with Advantage Consulting was also a resounding success. The partnership helped the foundation reach 157 percent of their revenue goal with more than $70,600 in pledges from 600 donors. The Canadian Foundation is still relatively new - this is only its second Every Member Campaign. Funding programs specifically for Canadian fundraisers, the Foundation hopes to build knowledge through research and training developed for Canadian AFP members.

'We are both proud and excited about the accomplishments of the foundation in Canada,' says Maehara. 'They are well positioned to build on this success in 2003.'

AFP members historically give generously to the AFP Foundation for Philanthropy and the AFP Foundation for Philanthropy, Canada. Both organizations serve as the philanthropic arm of AFP - providing funding for programs, services and research to enlighten, educate and inform fundraisers worldwide.
