AFP Foundation Takes Fundraising to New Heights

November 26, 2008

(Dec. 1, 2008) Your contribution to the AFP Foundation for Philanthropy goes directly to funding scholarships, groundbreaking research and other programs and activities that further AFP’s mission to advance ethical and effective fundraising.

The AFP Foundation for Philanthropy partners with the association to build a better profession and helps more fundraisers get the skills and tools they need to advance charities the world over.

You can best help your chapter by making your donation or fulfilling your pledge before Dec. 31. If your chapter reaches its 2008 goal by the end of the year, additional direct support will be channeled to your chapter’s own programs and initiatives.

Giving to the AFP Foundation for Philanthropy has never been easier. You can make a quick and secure donation with its enhanced online giving option. Of course there are many ways to make a donation, and all are described here.

Foundation support made possible 15 strategic initiatives in 2008, spanning critical professional issues from education and research to AFP chapter program, the promotion of philanthropy in communities of color and youth in philanthropy. In partnership with a corps of committed volunteers, the foundation engages in vigorous outreach to fund the pressing strategic priorities of the profession.

Onward and Upward in 2009 With Your Support

The foundation looks forward to the contributions of a talented and experienced team of volunteer officers. Serving as the 2009 foundation chair will be Donald G. Rizzo, CFRE, vice president of institutional advancement at the University of Hartford in West Hartford, Conn. He has previously served the AFP foundation in numerous leadership and fundraising roles.

“It is a privilege to serve as chair of the AFP Foundation,” said Rizzo. “We will work to see that the foundation remains strong and further builds its major gifts program. We will work to be responsive to a profession that faces unique challenges in an economic downturn.”

Rizzo will lead a board that includes the following officers:

  • Chair-Elect: William M. Moran, FAHP, ACFRE, executive director of St. Vincent’s Foundation in Birmingham, Ala.
  • Vice Chair, Development: Gary L. Good, CFRE, vice president of development at Pacific Symphony in Irvine, Calif.
  • Secretary/Treasurer: Susan F. Rice, Ed.D., ACFRE, principal of SFR Consulting in Los Angeles, Calif.

The foundation officers will be joined by the following new directors whose three-year terms begin Jan. 1.

  • Brian J. Bonde, ACFRE, president of Children’s Care Hospital Foundation in Sioux Falls, S.D.
  • Kristina Carlson, CFRE, president of Ketchum Inc. in Dallas, Texas.
  • D.C. Dreger, Ph.D., ACFRE, vice president of Custom Development Solutions in Conway, S.C.

Over the coming months, the foundation will continue its pursuit of major gifts that will help to make AFP strategic initiatives a reality. Solicitations are currently underway to fund innovative programs to expand philanthropy within communities of color. The foundation is pleased to announce that Community Counselling Services (CCS) has extended its major gift support to sponsor Kaleidoscope, AFP’s diversity e-newsletter.

In further support of diversity in philanthropy, the foundation will be working to secure major gifts for a ground-breaking conference, “The Color of Money: A Professional Development Conference for Persons of Color,” to convene in Philadelphia in June 2009. This conference will be co-sponsored by the AFP Greater Philadelphia Chapter in collaboration with AFP, AFP Foundation for Philanthropy and the National Center for Black Philanthropy.

Thank You!
