It’s Not Too Late! Find Your Passion For The Every Member Campaign
November 6, 2013
Deborah Legrove, chair of AFP Canada’s Every Member Campaign (EMC), wants to spread the word to Canadian AFP chapters about the importance of the EMC to supporting the work of the AFP Foundation of Philanthropy - Canada. Put simply, the foundation’s mission is to transform Canadian philanthropy. For those of you who are passionate about your job as a fundraiser; passionate about your mission and motivated to give back to the sector – the foundation’s annual Every Member Campaign provides an easy opportunity to help shape the future of philanthropy in this country.
How does the EMC achieve this lofty ambition? Says Legrove, “...it helps us to build leaders through education. It helps strengthen the nonprofit sector through mentoring. It helps careers unfold.”
Specifically, donations from the EMC will be put to work helping to achieve the following goals:
- Create sector advocates through member education;
- Build philanthropic leaders through scholarships;
- Strengthen the sector through career mentoring; and
- Foster a greater understanding of philanthropy and fundraising practices through research.
Bursary recipient Clare McDowall had this to say, “Thank you for your support in sending me to Congress 2011. I met so many great people and learned so much from the great line-up of presenters. It was an amazing experience.”
Clare’s found her passion and thanks to AFP, she’s been able to channel that passion into professional skills, knowledge and action. Who do you know in your community that could benefit from this kind of opportunity? A portion of all EMC funds are allocated back to the local chapter.
Goals for this year’s campaign are ambitious: $119,000 achievable through 25 percent member participation rate. But really, it all starts with one person. Says Legrove “I chaired the EMC at my local chapter for a couple of years. It had a very low profile, but that started to change once people understood what we were trying to accomplish.”
