Study Links Charity Fundraising Results to Annual Fund Campaigns
(July 15, 2014) Charitable organizations in the U.S. and Canada are more likely to raise funds successfully when they have a formal, annual fundraising drive, according to survey results released by the Nonprofit Research Collaborative. AFP’s Growth-in-Giving (GiG) Measurement Tools
All the GiGi Fundraising Fitness Test reports and GiG Reports are growth-oriented fundraising tools for tracking growth in giving by various performance indicators, gift ranges and gain(loss) categories. GiG reports can show performance for the fundraising program overall, as well as for each fundraising activity, such as direct mail and major gifts. Based on these reports, fundraising managers can recommend detail-level strategies by gain/loss category for each fundraising activity.

Funds Raised Increased at 58 Percent of US and Canadian Charities in 2012
Nearly six in 10 charities surveyed (58 percent) raised more in 2012 than they did in 2011 from contributions, marking the first time since 2006 that significantly more than half showed such positive results. Last year at this time, 53 percent had raised more. The research was released at the annual conference of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, a partner in the six-member Nonprofit Research Collaborative (NRC). This is the third annual report by the NRC and includes responses from nearly 1,200 charitable organizations in the United States and Canada.

Non-Profits Should Tug At The Heart
(Mar. 12, 2013) Professor Small found that an appeal to the heart, rather than to the rational mind, was more likely to motivate people to give money to charity or offer other tangible assistance. A 2011 article by Leon Neyfakh for the Boston Globe, entitled "Why We Give to Charity,” interprets Small’s study to mean that more information makes it less likely that people will give. But in fact, Neyfakh’s interpretation is wrong.

Fundraising Results Overall Stall Mid-Year

The purpose of this project was to better understand how fundraising professionals are responding and adapting to tools of the "new philanthropy" environment, especially to funding from "giving circles." Scholars, practitioners, and journalists claim a new era has begun in American philanthropy; one that is more engaged and uses unconventional modes of giving and volunteering. The study, by Angela Eikenberry of the Center for Public Administration and Policy, School of Public and International Affairs, Virginia Tech, examines the practice in depth.

With a core purpose of advancing ethical and effective fundraising, the Association of Fundraising Professionals has undertaken to ensure that fundraising is viewed as a credible and respected profession for civic betterment throughout the world. Goals and outcomes are key to this effort, as are the measures of success. These elements and more are spelled out in the Strategic Plan for 2007-2010. The plan was approved by the Board of Directors on March 24, 2007.

WASHINGTON (AFP eWire-March 29, 2004) - There's good news and bad news in the recent report Foundation Giving Trends: Update on Funding Priorities issued by the Foundation Center in New York City. 'Foundations largely stuck by their missions and grantees in the bleak economic environment of 2002,' said Loren Renz, vice president for research at the Foundation Center. Nevertheless, foundations did make adjustments reflecting the economic climate. 'Given declining endowments, foundations shied away from making as many major capital commitments and tried to shore up grantees with increased operating support,' Renz added.
