2011 Think Tank on Fundraising Research: Regulation, Ethics and Philanthropy: A Sector-Wide Dialogue in the Interest of the Public Good (Feb. 3-4, 2011)

We are pleased to invite you to participate in the 2011 Think Tank on Fundraising Research, sponsored by AFP's Research Council and funded through the AFP Foundation for Philanthropy.  The two-day meeting, "Regulation, Ethics and Philanthropy: A Sector-Wide Dialogue in the Interest of the Public Good," is made possible by a grant from the Edyth Bush Charitable Foundation.  It will be held February 3-4 at the Peabody Hotel in Orlando, Florida.

The purpose of the Think Tank is to provide an opportunity for scholars and practitioners to have a constructive dialogue on issues related to ethical fundraising practice, laws related to nonprofits, and how external regulation improves or diminishes the value-added work of nonprofits.  The think tank will be the culmination of a series of three webinars, held over a period of three months, featuring noted experts on ethics, nonprofit law, and regulation.  For more information on the three webinars for the think tank, go to AFP's website http://afp.peachnewmedia.com/store/provider/provider09.php.

The think tank will be an interactive meeting, with meaningful discussions about case studies related to ethical practice, and participants will develop recommendations for action by the nonprofit community.  Expected outcomes are a white paper summarizing the findings and recommendations, development of educational materials related to the theme, and ongoing discussions through an online community.

There is no registration fee for the Think Tank.  Transportation and hotel accommodations are at each registrant's expense.  A block of sleeping rooms has been reserved at the Peabody Hotel, 9801 International Drive, Orlando, FL at a room rate of $219 + tax per night.  Hotel reservations must be made before the cutoff date of January 3, 2011.  Call 1-800-732-2639 or 407/345-4488 go to www.peabodyorlando.com and mention the AFP Think Tank to get the special room rate.

A reception for think tank participants sponsored by the American Society of Association Executives will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 2.  The think tank discussions will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 3, and will end at noon on Friday, February 4.  We ask that those who register for the think tank attend or purchase CDs for at least two of the three webinars prior to attending the think tank.

If you would like to attend the think tank, please register early, as seating is limited to 50, and we are accepting registrations on a first-come, first-served basis. There will be a waiting list for those who register after the maximum number of registrants is attained.
