Government Relations Update: Political Activity Consultations Still Underway
by Dan Brunette
Minister Diane Lebouthillier made an announcement on September 27 related to the launch of consultations intended to clarify rules for charities participating in "political activities." The unfortunate reality is that because many are apprehensive when it comes to engaging with politicians, MPs, and government committees, their front-line voices and subject-matter expertise are not being taken into account in policy decisions that affect them and their stakeholders.
There are online consultations, as well as in-person sessions in major cities (invitation-only) to help inform the government’s next steps. As a result, AFP encourages its members, the agencies we work with, and the public, to participate in these consultations before the December 14th deadline. AFP will be submitting its own written comments and will be sharing these with the membership and the sector.
