Mid-April Deadline for Canada Revenue Agency Roadshows
(April 9, 2007) The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) is once again offering its popular and informative Roadshows in 2007. If you are interested in attending one of the events, the deadline is April 20.
The CRA’s Roadshows are open to all registered charities and provide participants with information on:
- books and records, and financial statements
- how best to prepare for an audit
- tax planning schemes
Interested organizations should contact the CRA by April 20 so the agency can begin to schedule Roadshows. Once the CRA has planned the times, dates and locations of the Roadshows, invitations will be sent via email. Participants will then be asked to register for the Roadshow of their choice through the online registration form.
There are two new changes for the Roadshows in 2007. First, only online responses and registrations will be accepted through the CRA website. Second, the CRA is offering targeted Roadshows for umbrella organizations, head offices and their affiliates, professional organizations of people such as accountants and lawyers, as well as groups of registered charities that share interests such as the arts, education, etc. Targeted Roadshow topics will cover the day-to-day operations of a charity, including:
- objects and activities
- tax responsibilities
- disbursement quota reductions
- fiscal period-ends, name changes and changes of designation
- gifting to nonqualified donees
- tax-planning schemes
The CRA is also looking for venues to host the Roadshow events. Organizations that have available space (the venue must hold a minimum of 50 people) and would be willing to host the Roadshows should complete the “Hosting” section of the response form.
