Grizzard Named One of World's Best Fundraisers
January 22, 2006
(Jan. 23, 2006) The editors of The NonProfit Times have named Claude H. Grizzard, Sr., a 'Living Legend' in their recent annual selection of 'The World Best Fundraisers.'
Grizzard, who served as chief executive officer for The Grizzard Agency for more than three decades, took over the firm's leadership from his father in 1961. He expanded the company's operations, working with clients such as The American Red Cross, the Salvation Army and dozens of other organization. The firm is now one of the largest direct response companies in the world, grossing more than $120 million annually and with offices across the United States, according to the Times report.
Grizzard has since retired, though he still serves as chairman emeritus of the firm. He has served on the board of directors of the AFP Foundation for Philanthropy. The Direct Marketing Association awarded him its Fundraising Achievement Award in 2000.
'Claude is one of the true pioneers of fundraising, and I don't think the Times could have chosen a more worthy recipient,' said Paulette Maehara, CFRE, CAE, president and CEO of AFP. 'He has meant so much to the profession, and to AFP. The way we practice fundraising today would be far different if not for the work and contributions of Claude, and we're pleased that he's being recognized in this manner.'
