AFP Charters 200th Chapter

October 26, 2008

(Nov. 10, 2008) At its recent meeting in Nashville, Tenn., the AFP Board of Directors chartered two new chapters to bring the total number to 200.

The first new chapter is the AFP Mexico, Capitulo Sinaloa Chapter, located in Culiacán and sponsored by the AFP Mexico City Chapter. Its chapter dues have been set at $25 and its first chapter president will be Lydia Peinado Aguirre, executive secretary for the Junta de Asistencia Privada de Sinaloa.

“Creating the Capitulo Sinaloa Chapter started as an initiative of a group of fundraisers that has been working in the state of Sinaloa in México, with the common interest of gaining insight into current trends in fundraising and networking with our peers,” explained Peinado.

“Some of our members attended conferences of the Association of Fundraising Professionals in Mexico City, and it was an exciting experience that motivated us to create an AFP chapter in our state and share this experience with our colleagues. We are committed in working to make our mark in Mexico!”

The second new chapter is the AFP Oklahoma, Sooner Collegiate Chapter, located at the University of Oklahoma in Norman, Okla. It is being sponsored by the AFP Oklahoma Chapter and its dues have been set at $15. The first chapter president is John “Sonny” Wilkinson.

“We are very excited about the opportunities that are now available to us as a chapter of AFP,” said Wilkinson. “Our new chapter, along with the Oklahoma chapter, will provide excellent resources for our students and our community to become more knowledgeable about fundraising as a profession. We hope to accomplish many things this year along side educating our members about ethical fundraising. I know I speak for everyone in the organization when I say thank you to AFP for allowing us this excellent opportunity."

Wilkinson noted one project the chapter is currently working on in conjunction with the Nonprofit Leadership Student Association at the University of Oklahoma. “We’ll be gathering teams and raising money for the American Heart Association’s Heart Walk this spring in Oklahoma City, and our goal is $10,000.”

“It’s fitting that the two chapters that take us to 200 are an international chapter and a collegiate chapter,” said Paulette V. Maehara, CFRE, CAE, president and CEO of AFP. “We’re seeing a lot of growth in these areas, and I welcome all of the members of these chapters to the AFP community.
