June 1, 2016

Twenty-four finalists across six categories, including Outstanding Philanthropist and Outstanding Youth in Philanthropy, have been announced for the Association of Fundraising Professionals’ (AFP) third annual National Philanthropy Day® Honors, recognizing extraordinary generosity, selflessness, innovation and leadership in giving, volunteering and engagement.

More than 90 video nominations were sent to AFP from across North America, with nominators highlighting the impact of their nominees on their communities and the world. AFP members and the public were invited to vote on their favorite videos and nominees in each category.

“There are no winners or losers in philanthropy, as everyone engaged in charity makes a real difference in our world,” said Andrew Watt, FInstF, president and CEO of AFP. “But we feel it is important to recognize extraordinary acts of kindness, generosity and leadership, because these individuals and organizations can serve as role models for others and inspire us all to become more involved in our neighborhoods and communities.”

National Philanthropy Day® is the day set aside to remember and recognize the impact philanthropy—charitable giving, volunteering and engagement—has made in our world. The day was first celebrated in 1986 in the U.S. with a proclamation from President Ronald Reagan. It is now celebrated in more than 100 communities around the world and been recognized permanently by the government of Canada.
