Now you can get in touch with AFP and fellow members with four popular social networking sites: Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and ammado. Get interesting and fun updates about AFP and fellow members and connect with fundraisers from around the world!
Social networking websites allow people to create a free profile and communicate with friends, family and colleagues. AFP has created accounts on these four popular platforms to better communicate AFP’s upcoming programs, its many valuable member offerings and to facilitate sharing among association members. Explore these sites and find the one that is best for you!
AFP on Facebook
Facebook allows you to post information about yourself and find out about others. Once you are a Facebook “friend” with another person, you can share photos, live online links, post messages, and even follow their personal thoughts and musings as posted in their “status updates.”
AFP’s Facebook account, which you can access by going to www.facebook.com/AFPNET, is a great way to find out about the most current AFP programs being offered, keep up with important deadlines and see photos from conferences and events. If you have a Facebook profile, you can click “Add as a Friend” and you will be listed as a “friend of Afp Ihq” (Association of Fundraising Professionals international headquarters). Viewing AFP’s “friend list” allows you to connect with your colleagues in a new way. To create an account, go to www.facebook.com.
AFP on Twitter
Twitter allows you to tap into and participate in an ongoing conversation among you and your friends. Once you create an account, you can send or read “tweets.” “Tweets” are short snippets of ideas up to 140 characters for others to read or you can “follow” others to see what they are tweeting about. You can also post links to articles, photos and videos. Anyone who follows you on Twitter will receive your post on their page.
AFP’s Twitter page is www.twitter.com/afpihq. Subscribe and you’ll get up-to-the-minute updates of all kinds about the latest news from the association, fundraising and the nonprofit sector. To create an account, go to www.twitter.com.
AFP on LinkedIn
AFP is part of the LinkedIn community. LinkedIn is a social platform used mainly for professional networking. On LinkedIn you can post your professional background and your interests. You also can connect with people and post messages and read their posts about any given topic.
You may join the LinkedIn group, On Fundraising, Hosted by AFP and/or one of AFP’s subgroups: On Social Media, On Consulting and On Higher Education. On Fundraising is the main group for AFP members to communicate with one another through postings of ideas and links, suggestions and questions, etc. The AFP subgroups are based on particular topics for more specific discussions (i.e. about topics relevant to higher education). These forums were created to add to your networking and discussion experience with AFP members and nonmembers. To create an account, go to www.linkedin.com.
AFP on ammado
ammado is a global online community, similar to facebook, that connects nonprofits, socially responsible companies and engaged individuals dedicated to positive change on a global and local level. ammado was founded in 2005 and is now available in 12 languages (English, Dutch, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Polish, Korean, Japanese, simplified and traditional Chinese) with activities in over 100 countries. Organizations can also set up fundraising pages through ammado.
Each of these social media platforms allows you to enrich your experience with AFP and meet new people. Plug into AFP on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and ammado today!
