The AFP International Conference: All About the People

Networking will be a big part of the 47th AFP International Conference on Fundraising in Baltimore, happening April 11-14. This year, along with the special events listed below, more time has been added between educational sessions for informal networking. Meet with your fellow session attendees in the room or grab a seat in the marketplace to discuss what you have learned and share best practices.

Affinity Networking Sessions in the Marketplace
Sunday, April 11 - 3:15 to 4:15 p.m.
These informal get-togethers are designed to foster one of the most important benefits of attending the International Conference: developing a collegial network of peers to share interests, expertise and information. During these informal roundtable discussions, engage with people of shared interests and concerns.
Affinity session groups will include the following: African American; Arts/Cultural; Asian; Education; Faith-based; Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender; Health; Hispanic; International Fundraising; Jewish; Public Radio/TV; Rural; Youth in Philanthropy.

Opening Night Reception
Sunday, April 11 - 6:15 to 7:15 p.m.
Find your old friends and meet new ones at our opening networking event! Please join your colleagues for fun, food and networking all in the Marketplace immediately following the Opening General Session.

Facilitated Networking Session:
Savvy Everyday Networking Skill: Attracting More Donors and Developing Strong Alliances

Monday, April 12 - 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.
Have you ever wondered how some people possess the types of skills that make them shine and stand out in a crowd? They are able to walk into a room, create a presence, make connections and connect with more donations and gifts and build deep friendships and donor loyalty. In the world marketplace, everyone is seen as a commodity and very often we find ourselves trying to catch up with our competition when it comes to fundraising. In this session, the whole focus will be on implementing the techniques of networking and how to connect, engage and interact within our own community. Join Andrea R. Nierenberg, bestselling author, world-renowned business authority, and founder and president of The Nierenberg Group for this special one hour facilitated networking session.

Monday, April 12 - 7 to 10 p.m.
Baltimore's nationally renowned aquarium is closing its doors to the general public so that AFP members can SPLASH through the facility to get a close look at the extraordinary sea life. The Maryland Chapter has a wonderful evening planned, including food and drinks and the opportunity to walk through the entire facility with more than 16,500 animals. Special attractions include walking through a three floor shark tank. The National Aquarium is located in Baltimore's Inner Harbor and is within walking distance of the conference hotels. The evening will begin at 7:00 p.m. Please bring your colleagues and family and come SPLASH with the AFP Maryland Chapter at the National Aquarium in Baltimore! The aquarium facilities have been provided by the generosity of the National Aquarium and its Trustee Bob Carter, Vice Chairman, Changing Our World. The SPLASH is $55 per person.
