Member Motion/Accolades: June 2008

(June 30, 2008) AFP members are always accepting new challenges and exciting career opportunities, as well as receiving accolades for their commitment and service. Here are some job announcements, appointments, promotions and recognitions for June 2008.

Sondra Bradford-Jennings has joined the Danbury Hospital Development Fund in Danbury, Conn., as its director of development communications and foundation relations. She was formerly the director of development and communications for Family ReEntry in Norwalk, Conn.

Leigh Carter has been named executive director of FONKOZE USA in Washington, D.C. She was previously with JM Advancement Organizations, Fundraising Consultants, in Sarasota, Fla.

Judi DeJager is now major gifts officer at St. Francis House in Boston, Mass., not in Chicago as previously reported (AFP regrets the error). Previously, she was associate director of giving ministries for Fourth Presbyterian Church in Chicago.

Sally Lawrence is the new executive director for the Arthritis Foundation in Orange County, Calif. She previously served as the executive director for the March of Dimes in Orange County.

Dawn K. Knill, CFRE, the director of development and public relations for SAGE Eldercare in Summit, N.J., recently completed and passed the Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) exam.

John R. Mercier, CFRE, has been named president of FONKOZE USA in Washington, D.C. He was formerly the vice president of the YMCA of Greater New York in New York City.

Theresa A. Shubeck, executive vice president of Ruotolo Associates in Cresskill, N.J., recently received the Robert J. Smythe Outstanding Professional Fundraiser Award from the AFP New Jersey Chapter.

Claudia H. Stowers, CFRE, has been named chief development officer of the Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania in Miquon, Pa. She most recently served as director of development and communications for Episcopal Community Services in Philadelphia.
