Member Motion: February 2008

(Feb. 25, 2008) AFP members are always accepting new challenges and exciting career opportunities, as well as receiving accolades for their commitment and service. Here are some job announcements, appointments, promotions and recognitions for February 2008.

Susan M. Bean, CFRE, is now the director of major gifts for Seattle University – School of Law in Seattle, Wash. Previously she was executive director of advancement for Seattle Community College District in Seattle.

Andrea Bloodworth was appointed director of development for the Erie Philharmonic in Erie, Pa. She was previously at Wichita State University in Wichita, Ks.

Adrienne D. Capps, CFRE, has accepted the position of senior director of development for the Graduate School of Management at the University of California-Davis in Davis, Calif. She served previously as director of development for Dyson College of Arts and Sciences at Pace University in New York City.

Scott W. Cooksey, CFRE, has been named associate vice chancellor for development with Texas Tech University System’s Institutional Advancement Office in Lubbock, Texas. He served previously as director of development and external relations for Texas Tech University’s College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources.

Harriet Davis has been named Assistant Vice President for Development at Hampton University in Hampton, Va. She was previously director of development for North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro, N.C.

Heidi Dorr has been named director of development for the Vermont Land Trust in Montpelier, Vt. She is also owner and president of Falconwing Consulting in Montpelier and will continue consulting.

Katherine Keating Edsey, is the new manager, foundation and resource development for the International Association of Defense Counsel in Chicago, Ill. Her previous position was as foundation coordinator for Healthy Smiles, Healthy Children: The Foundation of the AAPD in Chicago.

Darren J. Farlow has been appointed president of the Southampton Hospital Foundation in Southampton, N.Y. He was formerly vice president of corporate development for the American Cancer Society in New York City.

Jennifer Hawthorne joined Cancer Care Services in Fort Worth, Texas, as development director. Her previous position was development officer-grants manager for Trinity Habitat for Humanity in Fort Worth.

Chris Heeg has been hired as director of development for the Urban Homesteading Assistance Board in New York City. He was formerly major gifts officer with The Trust for Public Land in New York City.

Lisa Jacobs has accepted a new position as chief development officer for the Boys & Girls Club of Anne Arundel County and Annapolis in Annapolis, Md. She was formerly the director of development for Baltimore Lab School in Baltimore, Md.

Susan Fiske Koehler is the new director of development for WILDCOAST in Imperial Beach, Calif. She served previously as director of development for Holy Innocents Children’s Malaria Hospital in San Diego, Calif.

Patton McDowell has joined Vandever Batten, a philanthropy consulting firm in Charlotte, N.C., as its new managing director. He served formerly as vice president for university advancement at Queens University of Charlotte.

Lorna L. Miller has been promoted to executive director of the University Community Hospital Foundation in Tampa, Fla. Previously, she was associate executive director of the foundation.

Clare Olmstead has been promoted to business development manager at The Fraser Institute in Calgary, Alberta. She was previously development associate at the institute.

Jane Piercy has been selected director of development and external relations for Texas Tech University’s College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources in Lubbock, Texas. She previously served as a development officer with Texas Tech University Libraries.

William Ray, Ph.D., has been appointed chief philanthropy officer for the Camino Region of the Palo Alto Medical Foundation, located in Palo Alto and Mountain View, Calif. He was formerly chief development officer for The Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, Calif., and West Palm Beach, Fla.

Heidi Rixman has accepted a new position as donor relations manager at Bancroft NeuroHealth in Haddonfield, N.J. She was formerly the foundation director at The Arc of Hunterdon Foundation in Annandale, N.J.

Michael J. Rosen, CFRE, executive vice president of client development at Legacy Leaders in Philadelphia, Pa., has been elected vice president of the board of directors of the Planned Giving Council of Greater Philadelphia.

Gary N. Rowe, CFRE, is now director of development for Western Illinois University-Quad Cities in Moline, Ill. Previously, he served as vice president, development/marketing for Bethany for Children & Families in Moline.

Karen E. Schnabel has been promoted to assistant director of development at The Tomorrow Fund in Providence, R.I.  She graduated in 2006 as a Feinstein Scholar from Rhode Island College in Providence in the Nonprofit Studies program at the Center for Public Policy.

Andrea Satter has been promoted to development manager with Free Arts Minnesota in Minneapolis, Minn. She was previously major gifts officer with the organization.

Lynn G. Schrader, CFRE, has joined the King County Library System Foundation in Seattle, Wash., as director of major and planned gifts. He was previously a consultant with a variety of nonprofit organization in the Seattle area.

Bonnie Trowbridge now works at Savio House in Denver, Colo., as the director of development. Previously she was at Girls Inc. of Metro Denver as the Director of fundraising and communications.

Steven Wander has been promoted to director, gift planning and development officer for the Jewish United Fund/Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago in Chicago. He was previously the organization’s assistant director, gift planning and administration.

Donald M. Weyl has been hired as director of Philanthropy for Manatee Glens in Bradenton, Fla. He was formerly major and planned coordinator for MacDonald Training Center in Tampa, Fla.

Julie M. Wills, CFRE, has accepted the new position of development manager for the Southwest Florida Region of The American Red Cross in Sarasota, Fla. She was formerly director of philanthropy for Manatee Glens in Bradenton, Fla.

Nancy L. Withbroe, CFRE, has been named manager of consulting services with CDR Fundraising Group in Crofton, Md. She was formerly president of Withbroe Development Consulting in Takoma Park, Md.
