AFP Business Membership

August 23, 2012

A Direct Path to New Business Opportunities

For many years companies in the nonprofit sector have provided valuable support to AFP and have sought to play a more active role. In response, AFP, with the assistance of the AFP Industry Partners Council (see below), revised the AFP Code of Ethical Principles and Standards to provide for business partners.

Qualified businesses are welcome to join and to engage their staff members in AFP. This is an opportunity to be heard by the thousands of fundraisers who belong to AFP.

Dedication to Ethics

AFP Business Members sign their adherence to the AFP Code of Ethical Principles and Standards and, in so doing, show their dedication to advancing accountable and effective fundraising. With the assistance of the AFP Industry Partners Council, AFP expanded and enhanced its code in 2007 to account for its new business members.

“Many organizations have come to us and asked not only how they could better interact with AFP, but also how they could fall under our code’s standards and principles,” said Paulette V. Maehara, CFRE, CAE, president and CEO of AFP. “Our new Business Membership categories provide companies with exactly those opportunities and will help unify the profession—and those organizations that support it—under a common set of ethical standards. We’re very excited about the new membership category, and I invite all companies to consider joining AFP through this program and showing their support of ethical and effective fundraising.”

“We strive to uphold ethical principles in our work and found the AFP Code of Ethics to be a good expression of the principles we work to maintain,” said Owen Watkins, CEO of DialogueDirect Inc. in New York, an Endorser member of AFP that provides services in canvassing and donor acquisition. “We find our membership to AFP to be an excellent use of our marketing budget and a win-win for our business.”

AFP Business Members have access to key nonprofit leaders and policymakers. The for-profit company can tap into information on all aspects of the profession, with state-of-the-art technology and historical data to obtain insight and analysis into philanthropic trends and outlooks.
