(Oct. 16, 2006) AFP members are always accepting new challenges and exciting career opportunities, as well as receiving accolades for their commitment and service. Here are some job announcements, appointments, promotions and recognitions for October 2006.
Lois Badey is joining Virginia Community University in Richmond, Va., as director of development for the College of Humanities and Sciences. She was previously the director of annual giving for Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, Va.
Christie Baskett has been appointed development director for The Putney School in Putney, Vt. She was formerly the chief advancement officer of Greenhill School in Addison, Texas.
James Y. Bender, CFRE, is the new director of endowment development for YMCA Buffalo Niagara in Buffalo, N.Y. Previously, he was director of development for the Buffalo Academy of the Sacred Heart in Buffalo.
Patricia Heller has joined the Cottage Health System in Santa Barbara, Calif., as major gifts officer. She served previously as director of development for the Santa Barbara Maritime in Santa Barbara.
Milton Key, CFRE, has been named vice president of major and planned gifts for the Children’s Hospital of Atlanta Foundation in Atlanta, Ga. Previously, he was the executive director of development for Austin College in Sherman, Texas.
Marshall Monroe, CFRE (ret.), a former chair of AFP, has received the Summit Award from the AFP North Carolina, Western Chapter. The award is given to recognize individuals in western North Carolina for their lifetime of contribution to philanthropy, to their community and to their profession.
Eileen B. Murphy has been appointed vice president for institutional advancement for Erikson Institute in Chicago, Ill. She was formerly the director of development for the American Academy of Pediatrics in Elk Grove Village, Ill.
George Riley, CFRE, is now the director of development for Red Tomato in Canton, Mass. He was previously director of development at Hawthorne Valley School in Ghent, N.Y.
Karen Selvaggi, CFRE, announces the opening of a new office in the United Kingdom for her firm Momentum Nonprofit Consulting, based in Palm Coast, Fla.
Edwin M. Shafer, FAHP, CFRE, has joined the American Cancer Society Midwest Division in Mendota Heights, Minn, as major gifts director. Formerly, he was president of Shafer Development Associates, Inc. in Chattanooga, Tenn.
Carol M. Shaw, CFRE, has been named field director for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in Bethesda, Md. Previously, she served as director of development for the Audubon Naturalist Society in Chevy Chase, Md.
Vicki J. Stouffer has accepted a position at Oberlin College, in Oberlin, Ohio, as director of parent and family giving. She was formerly the director of the annual fund and constituent relations at Gilmour Academy in Gates Mill, Ohio.
Judy M. Wolfe is now the assistant director, annual fund, for the Office of Advancement at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. She served previously as a senior lecturer and aquatics director at Bryn Mawr College in Bryn Mawr, Pa.
