Stokes Earns ACFRE Credential
(Feb. 7, 2005) Shereitte C. Stokes III is the 75th fundraiser in the world to earn the Advanced Certified Fund Raising Executive (ACFRE) credential, the highest credential an AFP member can attain.
Stokes is the vice president for university advancement for Tuskegee University in Tuskegee, Ala. He began his fundraising career in 1987 after several years as a successful executive with AT&T and other companies.
'I find fundraising to be both exhilarating and frustrating - often at the same time,' says Stokes. 'I also believe that it is one of the noblest professions in the world because it allows me to serve a higher purpose - and I get to have fun while doing so."
Born and raised in Philadelphia, Pa., Stokes graduated from Overbrook High School. He attended Wilberforce University in Wilberforce, Ohio and received his MAEd from the University of Phoenix.
Stokes has participated in AFP's Executive Leadership Institute and Executive Management Institute. He has received various awards and distinctions throughout his career, including the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity's Citizen of the Year Award, Who's Who in the East and Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.
Married with four children and a grandson, Stokes is an active member in several professional and civic organizations, as well as his fraternity, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. He will be honored for his achievement during AFP's 42nd International Conference on Fundraising in Baltimore, Md., in April 2005.
