Benjamin Mohler Earns Highest Professional Fundraising Credential from AFP
October 14, 2015
(Arlington, VA) – The Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), the largest community of professional fundraisers in the world, has awarded its highest professional certification, the Advanced Certified Fundraising Executive (ACFRE), to Benjamin Mohler of Richmond, Ky.
Available only to senior-level fundraisers who have worked in the profession for 10 or more years, the ACFRE is a distinguished achievement earned by only 108 professionals since the inception of the program in 1992.
Mohler is the assistant vice president for major and planned gifts at Eastern Kentucky University. Previously, he served key roles at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, Cedarville University, and The University of Texas at Austin. Mohler is an involved member of AFP, and he was named to Charlotte Business Journal's "Forty Under 40" in 2013. He holds a bachelor’s degree in communications from Cedarville University and a master’s in philanthropy and development from St. Mary’s University of Minnesota.
“Completing the ACFRE process reflects the investments that others have made in my knowledge and success,” said Mohler. “It is not a badge of acclaim, it is one of commitment. It affirms my dedication to lifelong learning, investing in others, and doing so with an attitude of service. The ACFRE process challenged me in many ways. I started with the perspective that it was a destination. It is not. It is a critical leg in a much longer journey.”
The ACFRE program is the most rigorous certification process available to professional fundraisers. The process includes a comprehensive application, detailing achievements in practice, education, publishing, teaching, and service to the profession; a written examination that measures a candidate’s knowledge of fundraising as well as the philosophical, ethical, and social aspects of philanthropy; a portfolio representing the candidate’s body of professional work; and an oral peer review in which the candidate must articulate a mastery of advanced-level knowledge in fundraising management, leadership, and ethics.
The ACFRE Certification Board of AFP, chaired by Alice L. Ferris, ACFRE, MBA, CFRE, oversees the ACFRE candidate review process. Mohler will be honored for his achievement during AFP’s Leadership Academy in October.
