AFP's Canada Council: New Chapter & Supporting Chapter Engagement

June 9, 2015

By Karen Mercier

A primary goal of AFP's Canada Council is to ensure that chapters across Canada have the resources they need to deliver services and support to fund development professionals in their community. These resources include active boards and sub-committees that offer education, mentorship, networking, and scholarships, as well as events such as National Philanthropy Day that celebrate charitable giving.

The Canada Council also helps to ensure that chapters are well-managed through policies and procedures supported by best practices that adhere to the highest level of ethics and transparency. It’s how we, as fellow members, can ensure that our colleagues are receiving excellent value for their membership.

One of the ways the council supports chapter is through its Chapter Engagement Committee. The chapter serves as a liaison for all chapters through regular check-in calls, leadership calls and on-going personal contact. All chapter presidents at some time have questions or concerns—or just are in need of a sounding board. The members of the Chapter Engagement Committee are happy to provide that type of resource. It’s one way that we ensure all fundraisers receive the very best in service, regardless of where they are located.

Our Newest Chapter!

There is also cause for celebration with the announcement of a new AFP Chapter being formalized in New Brunswick, led by its founding president Kenn Mainville. "The establishment of the AFP New Brunswick Chapter is an exciting milestone for the province!” said Mainville. “Our chapter’s mandate is to foster the development and growth of professional fundraisers throughout the province while promoting philanthropy and high ethical standards in fundraising and non-profit management. Our charter members are working hard to build an inclusive network of organizations throughout the province and provide professional development to build capacity and knowledge in the sector. This will be a sea-change in the region as we equip fundraisers, management, staff and volunteers with the tools and knowledge to create a robust culture of philanthropy within their organizations that will sustain and grow their programs in local communities.”

New chapter formation continues to be a priority for the Canadian Council as we work to serve fundraisers located in smaller centers or remote locations. Keep in touch. Let us know how AFP's Canada Council can better support your chapter and the fundraising professionals in your area!
