AFP and New York Chapter to Sponsor 2nd Annual Mobile Giving Forum
September 27, 2011
The Mobile Giving Foundation will be hosting the second annual Mobile Giving Forum on Oct. 27 at the French Institute Alliance Française in New York City.
AFP International and the AFP Greater New York Chapter are sponsoring the event, which will bring together nonprofits, corporate foundations, wireless carriers, technology providers and others for a day-long program on the advancement of mobile philanthropy.
This year, the $195 early bird registration fee will be waived for the first 100 nonprofit professionals who provide a verifiable 501(c)3 Federal Non-Profit Tax ID Number during the online registration process (limit two attendees per organization).
Speakers at the forum include Venetia Espinoza, director, product management, digital media and partner programs, T-Mobile USA, Inc.; Miles Orkin, national director, web and mobile at American Cancer Society; H. Art Taylor, president and chief executive officer BBB Wise Giving Alliance; Ron Vassallo, chief executive officer at Kaptivate LLC; and Andrew Watt, FInstF, president and CEO of AFP.
“We’ve seen the kind of extraordinary impact that mobile giving can have after a natural disaster or other event,” said Watt. “But I think there’s an important role that mobile technology can play in both daily communications and general fundraising for all types of fundraising. The Mobile Giving Forum is a great opportunity to start that process, and we’re proud to be supporting the forum along with the New York Chapter.”
Other sponsors include BBB Wise Giving Alliance, Cellfish Media, Canadian Wireless Telecommunications Association (CWTA), Microsoft, Mobile Commons, OpenMarket, T-Mobile, Verizon Foundation, and Wiley Rein LLP, as well as Mobile Giving Foundation Canada and Mobile Marketing Association (MMA).
The Mobile Giving Foundation (MGF) was founded in 2007 as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization to create a “mobile-giving channel” that empowers other nonprofit organizations and donors. Working with North America’s mobile carriers, the MGF enables the mobile channel for charitable giving by providing the organizational layer, operational guidelines and technical infrastructure for nonprofit organizations and donors to use mobile technology.
