I hope you’re getting excited about the upcoming 52nd AFP International Fundraising Conference in Baltimore, March 29 - 31. We’re expecting a great crowd for the largest gathering of fundraising professionals in the world.

For me, the conference is all about one word: community.

The conference is where we share in and celebrate our community—a group of dedicated professionals committed to changing the world. Education is a key part of the conference, but equally critical is how you share and discuss what you’ve learned with your colleagues. After all, being in a community is how we advance and grow. And there are so many ways to interact with our community at the conference: from educational sessions and our networking lunches to evening receptions and events.

We’re again holding our invitation-only Celebration of Philanthropy awards event on March 28, Saturday evening, at 5:45 at the Marriott Waterfront Hotel. All 2015 chapter presidents will be invited to attend this special event where we’ll be honoring this year’s Outstanding Fundraising Professional, as well as presenting the Chair’s Award and the Barbara Marion for Outstanding Service to AFP. You’ll also get a chance to hear from our foundation leaders. It’s an opportunity to bring the fundraising profession together and celebrate our work and impact, and I hope you’ll be there.

Of course, we’ve got to get some official work done first. The Chapter Presidents’ Council Meeting and the Like-Size Chapter Meetings are on Sunday morning right before the conference starts. These are critical meetings for you to attend as well.

Keeping connected with your professional community is important, and I’ve had more than one member tell me how inspiring it was to look around at the conference hall full of thousands of their colleagues.
