AFP Hong Kong Chapter is First Outside North America
March 26, 2003
TORONTO (AFP eWire - March 28, 2003) - A Hong Kong chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) has been approved by the AFP Board of Directors, bringing the total number of AFP chapters to 170.
The board approved the chapter at the 40th International Conference on Fundraising in Toronto this week. The Hong Kong Chapter is the first AFP chapter created outside North America. Terry Farris is the chapter's first president.
'The creation of a Hong Kong Chapter is yet another sign that philanthropy is becoming more and more international,' said Paulette V. Maehara, CFRE, CAE, AFP president and CEO. 'We look forward to learning from our new colleagues and seeing the chapter grow and prosper.'
The Hong Kong Chapter was sponsored by the Hawaii, Aloha Chapter. While Hawaiian fundraising professionals reach out to members of the Hong Kong Chapter, Hong Kong members want to reach out as well. One of the Hong Kong Chapter's goals is to share their new knowledge and techniques with colleagues across China.
The Hong Kong Chapter received sponsorship from the Alford Group to pay for partial dues for the founding members of the chapter.
