Collegiate Chapters

Collegiate Chapters 300x199

AFP’s future is in the students attending colleges and universities across the globe, learning how to operate and fund charities and nonprofit organizations.  AFP has an obligation to promote and encourage the active involvement of college and university students in philanthropy, the nonprofit sector and the profession of ethical fundraising.

Our Collegiate Chapters and Members

The collegiate chapter will be comprised of at least ten students who will plan the chapter activities. The collegiate chapter will raise money for a self-identified philanthropic project and hold educational sessions about ethical fundraising practices. These sessions will be developed with local AFP Professional Members and include information about fundraising tools. The experience of selecting a cause, learning ethical fundraising principles, and ultimately supporting the cause will introduce students to the rewards of a career in professional fundraising .Upon graduation, it is hoped students will consider entering the non-profit sector.

If you have questions about the collegiate chapter program, please contact Chapter Services at chapter.services@afpnet.org

Resources

*New* Professional Chapter Toolkit for Chapters Sponsoring a Collegiate Chapter
The purpose of the Professional Chapter Toolkit is to help chapter leaders understand their ongoing responsibility to the collegiate chapter they sponsored and to serve as a guide for their active involvement. The Professional Chapter Toolkit is designed to coordinate with AFP’s Collegiate Chapter Survival Guide, the start-up guide for students that includes all of the requirements, and the Collegiate Chapter Toolkit which is a guide for ongoing collegiate chapter operations and chapter management.

The AFP Collegiate Chapter Toolkit
AFP designed this toolkit to help collegiate chapters work with Faculty Advisors and Professional Chapter Liaisons, provide guidance on choosing the best people for chapter leadership, provide best practices from current Collegiate Chapters and suggest other resources that will be helpful in building a robust organization.

Toolkit Note: To better assist users, the toolkit also appears below by section, and the Appendices are available as Word documents, so they can be easily accessed and personalized. The addenda are below.
