AFP Awards: Awards for Philanthropy
William R. Simms Award for Outstanding Youth in Philanthropy, Individual and Group
William R. Simms was one of the four founders of AFP and had a long-standing interest in engaging young people in philanthropy. This award, named in his honor, recognizes service by an individual ages 10–23 who demonstrate outstanding commitment to the community through direct financial support, development of charitable programs, volunteering and leadership in philanthropy. Nominees will be judged based on work done while they were 10–23 years old.
Award for Outstanding Corporation
The Award for Outstanding Corporation honors a corporation or its corporate foundation that demonstrates outstanding commitment through financial support and through encouragement and motivation of others to take leadership roles toward philanthropy and community involvement.
Award for Outstanding Fundraising Professional*
The Award for Outstanding Fundraising Professional honors an outstanding individual fundraising professional who works for a nonprofit, charitable organization. Nominees must have a minimum of 15 years of experience as a professional fundraiser. They must also be a current AFP member.
Award for Outstanding Foundation
The Award for Outstanding Foundation honors a foundation that demonstrates outstanding commitment through financial support, innovation, encouragement and motivation of others to take leadership roles in philanthropy and national, international and/or community involvement.
Award for Outstanding Philanthropist
The Award for Outstanding Philanthropist honors an individual or family with a proven record of exceptional generosity who, through direct financial support, demonstrates outstanding civic and charitable responsibility and whose generosity encourages others to take philanthropic leadership roles on a community, national and/or international level.
Award for Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser
The Award for Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser honors an individual or family that demonstrates outstanding skills in coordinating and motivating groups of donors and volunteers for fundraising projects for the benefit of charitable institutions. The recipient must have demonstrated exceptional leadership skills in coordinating groups of donors and volunteers for major fundraising projects for more than one nonprofit organization.
