Background and Introductory Information
These young fundraisers are chosen annually based on the following criteria:
- Evidence of exemplary work, success and/or activities in the fundraising profession, including notable career achievements to date, creativity, organizational ability, innovation, leadership positions and roles, etc.
- Evidence of AFP involvement and commitment to professional development (committee work, attendance at AFP events, actively seeking of input from professional colleagues, preparing/already engaged in obtaining a CFRE, etc.), including engagement on both the local chapter and national/international level.
- Description of volunteer activities within the community (in addition to AFP involvement) which evidences commitment to philanthropy as an active volunteer.
- Description of career goals to include narrative on desire to become an outstanding development professional.
The nominee must be under the age of 31 by the nomination deadline. There is no minimum of years the nominee must have been in the profession.
Nominations for the award may be submitted by an individual AFP member or an AFP chapter. Nominations submitted by an individual must be endorsed by a local AFP chapter (requiring a signature or initials of the chapter president).
Individuals selected to receive the Young Professionals Award will be honored at the AFP International Fundraising Conference. Honorees will be asked to write an article for AFP, discussing what they’ve learned in their professional career so far and lessons for others new to the profession, and they will then serve as judges for the next round of nominations for the Award.
Nominators will submit their nominations online (and nominations will ONLY be accepted online).
Winners will be selected by a panel of judges comprised of members of the AFP Awards Committee and AFP NextGen Committee. Previous recipients of the Award will also serve as judges.
Because of the number of applications submitted, it is not possible to provide nominators with written evaluations of their entries.
Individuals selected will be recognized at the 2018 AFP International Fundraising Conference on Fundraising and will be notified of their selection by January 2017. Honorees must be present to receive the awards.
Individuals who have previously been recognized with the Award cannot be re-nominated for it.
